  • At what point do I need CDI?

Another off-season coming which gives me time to rework few things in the car, including the motor
I was wondering when there is a point to install 500r and what is involved - can I use stock wiring? do I have to change coils?
the goal for next season is ~500hp engine ran on pump 98RON + meth mix, boost under 2 bars, not sure if I will be able to benefit a lot converting to CDI with these goals?

I generally think if you have spark problems with the spark plug gap at 0.6mm then you should consider a CDI.
You cannot use coils with internal igniters with a CDI and you normally need to make changes to the coil wiring.

You could probably make 500hp without a CDI but might find you are boost limited at peak torque (which is where the cylinder pressure will be highest).

I think for a competition engine you always want a CDI, but I understand the reasons why a CDI may not be installed.
He gets his lap dogs to do his talking for him. Buzzard is a good example.
