  • Rich on DECEL - SM4 - 4G63 - Automatic Transmission - Help!

    Hi All,

I'm looking for some help on why when i decel in gear (Automatic), it brings my AFR's into the 10's....
I believe i have overrun setup correctly. I would expect it to cut the injectors out and should go lean...

    Please assist.

Attached is a CAL and a LOG file.

    Setup:
    1. 4G63 2.3L
    2. 800CC Sard injectors
    3. SM4 EVO9 ecu

    Thank you.
    LOG file is zipped (size).

The Overrun Shutdown commence speeds are probably too high, particularly at 80 deg, slightly at higher temperatures.

      Hi Ian,
ok so I've reduce the shutdown commerce to 1500 and recommence to 1000. It has helped but I still get a short 10:1 spike for a fraction of a second. It soon returns to about 13:1 on deceleration.

I've also reduced the fuel map at <50 load to 65 and it has also helped...

I remember my motec would go full lean on deceleration with overrun activated (16:1 or off the scale).

should I put up another log with the changes?
or is this shutdown with a small rich spike normal with the autronic?

It is not normal. Set the TPS follower gain to zero and try again. What are you using to measure the AFR?

Please attach the log. Interesting choice of span and offset for the NGK unit. Have a look at the user manual for the AFX2 available from afxmonitor.com.

The comments on page 11 regarding ground loops are equally applicable to the AFX . Are you using an EVO4-9 knock board on the early 4G63B?

              Hi Chris,

              thanks for the info.
Looks like bmotorsports has improved their document!
different to the one I got in the box.
              similar wiring requirements though.

afr on the sm4 and afx is very similar. I've aligned the stoich offset so they are both seeing stoich at the same time. I just need to compensate accordingly when reading the afx gauge and doing the math on the sm4 calcs.

also, an update. I since redid all my idle calibrations as per the Idle how to guide. Disabling follower, minimum opening to zero and using a gpc to calculate the iac numbers. Now, my idle is much better but my overrun is now working! I now get full lean when on deceleration....

              something has fixed it!

oh yes, and I am using an Evo 9 knock sensor on this ecu but bolted to the vr4 block. Yet to confirm if it is working as it should be. The block is half grout filled also with forged pistons and eagle rods. Some knock ears will be used to compare later down the track....

thabks for the feedback Chris and Ian.

Overrun shutdown is locked out until idle throttle follower has finished it's action and both P-S / W-U fast idle increase are zero.

If your throttle follower gain is still zero, then it is likely the cause of the angst.

I thought in 1.07 the overrun shutdown was not locked out by the follower (I realise the help refers to later versions). Maybe the non-lockout is for earlier versions.

Can we get an answer on this please Barry, is the throttle follower still disabled?

                      Hi Chris and Ian,

Please find new logs and update CAL file with the changes implemented.
Follower has been set to zero.

Any ideas on why decel is still a touch rich (delay) when throttle is let off?

In the log there are two instances of the ecu commanding overrun fuel cut, at 71.453 and 236.734. In both instances the cut action is terminated by the overrun load limit. It would be prudent to raise the overrun load limit. As the cut action is of such short duration, the variations in the AFR trace are likely caused by sensor/analyzer time constant.
