  • problems with installing 01-05 pnp sm4 to 99-00 impreza

    i have issues with air temp, the reading is always 88 degrees, while the engine isnt even working, unplugging doesnt change anything, the red wire goes to E13 and black one E7
    LOAD is also always 100% and doesnt move

    second problem is, i dont have any spark, i use gc8 00 wasted spark ignition coil, 4Cyl WS +ve edge dwell
    ign1 wire goes to C24 and ign2 to C23
    94-00 triggers are chosen from the list

    i used to have 99-00 pnp smc, i have now taken every pin and repinned them to 01-05 pnp plugs

    For an MY01-05 PnP ECU the air temp sensor should be connected to B27 (signal) and B19 (sensor ground).
    The Ignition type must be selected as -ve Dwell. Selecting +ve dwell could destroy the coil pack. The 99-00 PnP had that setting because it had an internal dwell board which required a +ve signal to trigger which then externally produced a -ve signal to the igniter.
    The new ECU might be jumpered for a Subaru MAP sensor on pin B8. If you are using the PnP sensor for MAP check the position of link JP51 near the Autronic MAP sensor. It should be on pins 1 & 2 for the Autronic sensor as MAP (pins 2 & 3 for external MAP). If there is also a JP52, set that the same as JP51.

      thanks Ian

      air temp sensor started to work now with the correct pins

      now i only get spark in cylinders 3 and 4. might have fryed the other coil (1 and 2) already, im not too good with the multimeter to find it out, might try another coilpack.

      JP51 is set to 1 and 2, i dont have a wire on pin B8 at all. There is no JP52
      but load is still 100%, tryed to put to 2 and 3 and the reading changed to somewhere 20% something but its the wrong jumper setting anyway.

      is there a complete pinout for the 01-05 pnp ecu? if the wiring diagram in the software isnt 100% correct

        Can you upload a copy of the cal you are using? The page with paperclip button on the right side of the reply box can be used to upload the cal.
        Can you also put JP55 on pins 2 & 3 and go to menu M0 - Monitor - Monitor Sensors and report the value of parameter I/P Analog 2 % when the ignition is on.

          JP55 set to 2/3 I/P analog 2 ignition on reads 22.7%-22.8%

            Put some vacuum on the MAP sensor and report the Manifold pressure value and also the I/P Analog 2% value.

              At about -0.4 bar manifold pressure reads 54.8 kpa and i/p analog 2 reads 12.5% (jn55 set to 2-3)

                So the MAP sensor is reading correctly. The Load will be correct when the engine starts, unless the hose is blocked to the manifold.

                  Load changed for a moment and returned to 100% when i had the vacuum on

                  i will try another ignition coil and see if it ignites every cylinder, if the ignition settings are correct

                    Tryed new coil pack but still get spark on 3 and 4 only

                          Ok, the ECU is not v1.09 or later. Have you tried temporarily swapping the ignition outputs?

                              Nothing on 3 and 4 now. Bangs a lot with fuel
