  • serial to WiFi converter

Hello, I dragrace and after each run we read out the data. I bought a serial to wifi converter because I would like to read out the data without wireless. The serial to wifi converter I bought is a VRM04 (Google it). It's cheap but should work.

However I tried for hours and hours but I cannot get it to work. I am not an expert, so I wondered if someone can help me. I am sure I am not the only one trying this.

One of the question I have if this: can I use a simple gender changer to connect the autronic to the com port of the converter or do I need a null modem connector, and if so can I use a standard nullmodem converter?

Please help, I know that more people want a wireless connection.

Also see my weblog about it:

    Thanks,
    Willy

You will probably need to set some command line parameters and values on your Autronic software icon (or create a copy of the icon to use for wireless). This is because the software has an auto baud rate function that will try to change the comms speed to the fastest stable speed. The parameters are M, D & R but you will need to experiment with the values. What baud rate is the converter expecting?

What size are the data logs and are you using ECU Data Streaming to a display in the car?

      Hello Ian,

Yesterday I had for the first time contact between the serial converter module and the Autronic sm4. I used a null modem between the serial cable from the Autronic and the converter. I also used a different virtual port creator program.

But unfortunately when the Autronic connects to the converter it is disconnected immediately.

How do I use the command line options, something like "ecucal.exe /B" or "ecucal.exe B" without slash?. Does this command override the FileCal/communication menu settings?

Port settings where 19.200, 8, N, 1. Seems ok to me.

      Thanks for your help.

Don't change those Port settings in the File Cal menu.

The Command Line settings are listed in menu Help - Trouble Shooting.
After the ecucal.exe put one space then M=19200 D=200 R=400 then Apply the changes to the icon.
If your Autronic software is in the C: folder the line will be
        C:\Autronic\ECUSM4\ECUCAL.exe M=19200 D=200 R=400

You might need to try D values between 100 & 200 and R values between 300 & 600. There is also a TELEM command line option but it will not do anything without a special Comms cable.
