  • BIM 137 module and coil selection

    Hello.
I have a coil problem. I am running a ford v6 duratec engine with SMC and three bosch BIM137 ignition modules. The problem i have is the coil pack keeps failing. I have blown four coils in 2000 miles.

Bosch state that the module is compatible with there MEC717/8 or HEC715/6 coils. The problem i have is they are singular coils. Does that therefore mean i will need six ignitor modules?! Currently i have three which run two cylinders each, can i do this with six seperate coils? If so anyone suggest how i wire it all in?

Alternatively can anyone recommend me a six cylinder or 2 cylinder(x3) coil pack that this system will not cook?

Your coils could fail to wrong ignition modules. The best module earlier was the Bosch 008, but that was made for distributor and had a "special" dwell during cranking. If this module are used in direct fire applications they can get into cranking dwell at idle since the frequency is so lo that it thinks it is in cranking (made for distributor).

There is a new module available thru Autronic that is tested by Autronic, you can get it from your dealer.

The 137/139 was not a good choice for the 008 but until now the only available.

Try the new modules in wasted spark setup.

      Hi
Thanks for your help. It was running 008's as recommended by autronic when it cooked two of them.
It doesn't seem a very sophisticated system to me. Are there any alternatives other than ditching the ECU for one with proper built in coil amps and dwell control?

I have spent circa £3000 on the ecu, loom, mapping, replacement coils and replacement ignition modules and i'm really beginning to loose patience with it.

It is not the Autronic that is the problem , the low frequency can make the modules go to cranking dwell mode. This would happen to every other system that needs smart modules.

You can use a CDI, test the other new modules or use a SM4.
