Here is the pic of the new water proof version of the Sm4. You can se the new connector for communication and the other for knock sensor.
The case is machined from billet aluminum!

Can an existing SM4 be converted, or can one just buy the case?

I use an SM4 on a motorcycle, I have siliconed the end covers on and sealed the connector to endplate joint, but the serial port remains a problem. It is pretty well hidden from direct water splash inside my fairing, and I have ridden in rain without any problems, but this would be a much better solution.

I do not think so but some dealers may trade your Sm4 ecu for the new water tight version.

The abilty to upgrade a standard sm4 would be very handy. I use mine in a 4wd that see's a lot of mud and water. A unit like this would offer a lot of piece of mind. Espcially when we go swimming in the 4wd
