Hi,

I'm new to the forum. Both my street cars run SMC units and I've been an avid user since 1992. Sounds like a drug confession doesn't it!

I've searched through previous posts and found lots on the SM4 but nothing on the SMC.

Can anyone recommend a remote idle valve for an SMC. Years ago someone suggested to use a Ford 2 wire valve off an older Ford Falcon here in Australia. I priced one and they were approx $300 if one could be sourced form manufacturers stock.

It needs to be remote.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Try these guys, they may be able to help otherwise might pay to go have a look at a falcon wrecking yard.

This would be something I would be interested in also with my SMC, anybody have any recommendations.

Did you want me to try and find one for you?

Would Mach valves do the job? or would they be too small for your application

Do the 3 wire Bosch idle control valve (commonly found on VW 16v, 8v with CIS-E) work? On the VW 16v they are founf mounted on the passenger side of the motor at the level of the valve cover. IIRC SMC cannot control the GM stepper motors. I hope someone else with more knowledge can chime in.

Yes it will, Sm4 handles it directly, and with SMC a recistor is needed, it is covered in this forum somewhere....

Found lots on the SM4, but can't pinpoint the exact post regarding SMC setup and wiring.

Looks to be a very confusing issue, with a few people keen to know exactly what's best to do.

Cheers

Back from the dead: I did a little research on this forum and found this post. I have not tried this but I am sure there are a few people interested in this:

I had planned on using that valve setup (still have it) but ran into some unrelated issues and had to refresh another motor for the car. Actually just fired it up a few weeks ago and am using idle ign timing for the time being. Maybe one day I will hook it back up...one project at time ;)
