Hi Guys,
A car I purchased came with a plugin SM4 installed and password protected by the original tuner in a different state. Due to this I'm now changing the ECU to something else as a locked ECU is basically worthless to me, but I'd like to have a crack at unlocking the SM4 before it's removed.
I've spoken to the original tuner who will not provide me with the password to unlock the ECU, but will wipe it and load a base map if I send the ECU interstate to them. I dont really want it wiped as I'd like to see what the previous tuner did with the map and am curious as to why their map is so 'secret'...
A friend is writing a small application that is basically a brute-force password cracker which we can let loose on the interface, but I'd like to know what risk this may put the ECU at as I'm planning to sell the SM4 after my new ECU is up and running.
Any thoughts? Any funny lockouts etc I should be aware of?
Thanks,
Jason
