Hi Guys,

A car I purchased came with a plugin SM4 installed and password protected by the original tuner in a different state. Due to this I'm now changing the ECU to something else as a locked ECU is basically worthless to me, but I'd like to have a crack at unlocking the SM4 before it's removed.

I've spoken to the original tuner who will not provide me with the password to unlock the ECU, but will wipe it and load a base map if I send the ECU interstate to them. I dont really want it wiped as I'd like to see what the previous tuner did with the map and am curious as to why their map is so 'secret'...

A friend is writing a small application that is basically a brute-force password cracker which we can let loose on the interface, but I'd like to know what risk this may put the ECU at as I'm planning to sell the SM4 after my new ECU is up and running.

Any thoughts? Any funny lockouts etc I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Jason

You will find its income protection more than anything so you have to go back there.
Not very nice in my mind and i would stay clear of these type of mappers.

There will not be anything in there of use to you for your new ecu so i would just get it wiped, i think any dealer can do this ?

My tuner in Brisbane has a code to wipe it and start from scratch so no problem there, I'd still like to see what they're trying to hide

I can post a cal that was locked, the customer had to get his solicitor involved to get the code to unlock.

No secrets hidden by the code, a fair bit of incompetence hidden though.

I had the same issue myself and i got help to make a app. to crack the code. I cant see why this isnt public... Anyway he made a site www.unlockautronic.com (http://www.unlockautronic.com) but then you`ll have to ship it to him..

so the ecu would have to be sent to Norway?

I'll stick with my local contact, not all that comfortable sending an SM4 internationally for someone to use as a testbed for unlocking...

Just give it to a dealer and he will unlock it, and you need a new base map to get going. I am not for unlock softwares, if a tuner spends hundreds of hours getting a perfect map, he do not want it to be copied.

The only thing is that the tuner should tell the customer before he tunes it that he is going to password protect the file, this is so the customer knows it and have the choice to get some one else if he wants it open.

I'd prefer to get my current running map unlocked, so I'll go with that option first.

My tuner can unlock it and load a base map, but I'll be going with the brute-force option first and posting the results up on rexnet for other Aus-based autronic users info.
