i am looking into getting a AIM dash and i wanted to know how easy it would be to set the oil pressure to go into the autronic then out the R32 cable to the aim.

i looked in the sm4 manual and it said the sensor to use was a VDO 5 bar oil pressure sensor part # 360-720 but i have phoned a few places and they say that vdo number does not work and should be more like a 10-12 number part number.

does anyone have the correct number please :D:D

I have a listing of VDO sensors. What is the application for the sensor? Car, model?

Please note that you can connect a VDO pressure sensor to an instrument or other equipment as normal, and then connect it in parallell to one of the analog inputs in the Autronic SM4.
The SM4 will then read the voltage on the resistive voltage divider between the sensor, and the external instrument.
You will then need to calibrate the voltage levels in a linearisation table in the SM4.
You should in this application not add any extra component like pull up resistors.

I thinks this number is from the old forum and are a 2-pin sensor where the ground pin is separate from the "body".

the engine is a c20let i was going to just conect the sensor to the sm4 then have the r32 cable feed the aim with the signal needed is this not possible

I have looked at the AIM software, looks like you need next release SM4 chip to show oil pressure on the AIM dash.

Buzzard is right, current release of SM4 chip do not have pressure in the datastream, next release will have that. Contact your dealer for details.

http://www.egauges.com/vdo_send.asp?Sender=80PSI_5Bar_VDO

Here is a good source for information on the VDO sensors.

I am using the 360-410 (10-180 Ohms Single Station (for one gauge), Floating Ground)

I think the confusion with VDO part numbers is because there is VDO Automotive and there is VDO Marine

If you want to stream an Analogue parameter from existing SM4's it is possible to do in a temporary way prior to a CPU upgrade. If you are not using Closed Loop AF control and don't need to stream AF ratio you can define the O2 input as your pressure sensor (with an appropriate Linearisation) and the Stream value for O2 will in fact be your pressure value. However the label will obviously be AF ratio and I'm not sure if the 1 count = 0.01 AF ratio would scale correctly.

Don't be tempted to use the EBP input for streaming because the value is used in the fuel calculation as soon as you enable the Analogue input.

Hi guys!

I have the same problem with # 360-720 oil pressure sensor. What is the correct part number for this (10-12 numbers)?

I also need an oil temperature sensor. Can you guys recommend something?

Thanks!

The part number has changed guys,
I have it somewhere, If I find it before somebody else does, I'll post it up.

I have the oil temperature sensor sorted by the way.

Thanks

I found something: http://www.samallen.com.au/vdo.pdf

360081032001C 5 Bar / 74 PSI 1/8" - 27 NPTF 360-720

I guess it's that one.. ?

According to my notes the number for the 5 bar VDO is now 360081032001C.

Meanwhile, those things are big and ugly and I need something smaller to suit my bike fuel rail and I'm on the verge of purchasing this:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=734-1007-ND

5V supply, .5-4.5V output, this one is 100psi, other ranges available. Can anyone see a reason not to use it (for fuel pressure)?

Cheers
Steve

Hi,

I'm using similar as my oil pressure sensor: http://www.meas-spec.com/product/t_product.aspx?id=2888&terms=msp300*. Good thing about this is that it can be connected up to 30V supply voltage and regulated 5V supply is not needed.
Since I wanted to have the low oil pressure "idiot light", I had to make a small voltage comparator circuit to turn the light on.

Is it possible to set some kind of rev limit if oil pressure goes under for example 2 bars?

Riki, I think that was discussed here...

hello i have a ford escort coswort 96 mod and have a pressure sensor and pressure switsh in one unit ...how can i conect the output from the sensor to my sm4 latest ship...as you describe in this tread..

Thanks ...

Bumping this thread, will this sensor work to monitor oil or fuel press with the SM4?

MRMRacing

Yes they will and there are a 10 bar sensor that may be better for fuel pressure.

Hi all,

Any images of how you have mounted these senders? I have acquired a pair for oil and fuel pressure and am wanting to see how people have installed them in their engine bays. I am considering a big cushioned P-Clamp type arrangement.

hello do i need pull up resistor on oiltempratur sensor as shown in wiring diagram??can i use a ordinery bosch water temp sensor feks cosworth to take the oil temp??
i have ver 1.09-5 i will strem this to my racepak iq3??

If you are using an i/p analog put a 2200 ohm pull up resistor to 5V TPS supply. Yes you can use Bosch 0280130026

Instead of using the voltage from TPS, I use a separate LM7805 5V regulator. This way if +5V is grounded for some reason, $1 regulator burns instead of SM4.

To clarify the 2200 ohm pull up resistor if for the Bosch coolant temp sensor. A different value is required for
the VDO pressure sensors and can be found in the manual.

I am not aware of any temp sensors that do not require a pullup resistor

May be a stupid question.. but shall i use 5v tps supply with pull up resistor on 1 wiring and example analog 2 on the other on the bosch sensor??

Perhaps you can rephrase the question
