Many problems with inductive sensors are related to have the positive and negative wire wrong. Using a scope when installing can solve many hours faultfinding. The engine can run but have some issues. If the flywheel has holes instead of teeth the wires must be switched on same sensor than having teeth.
So to be safe check with a scope.

In this pic from my car with 60-2 the scope is connected to -Ve on the sensor since signal goes low after the missing teeth. (If testing on +Ve the signal should go high after the missing teeth.)
