What are the advantages of having a separate map sensor, and using the internal ECU sensor only for Baro?

Is it true if you use only the ECU sensor for both Baro and Map, the Baro reading is taken only before car starts?

We are planning to add a map sensor and let the baro read all the time so it can calibrate as the baro changes when we change elevation. We sometime run hill climbs where the elevation could change 2K feet during one race. Would this help?

Could someone confirm that I am correct, and if possible attach a sample cal file with a separate baro sensor.

Which Autronic unit are you using?

Don't they already have an internal baro sensor? If not, is it possible to just hook up a BARO sensor, and let the internal sensor function as MAP?

you can here is a cal with

ip analogs------>

ip baro

vdo500 kpa<or use a linerzation table>

I am using an SM4. The internal sensor, I beleive reads the baro on start, then it reads the map after that. What I thought could be done as a external map sensor can be used, so the internal sensor is always reading baro. When used with only the internal sensor the baro is estimated by the baro table. Could some please confirm, does anyone do this, the advantage would be that at a hill climb the baro could be consistantly calibrating the fuel settings.

use the internal map as the engine map sensor then use the ip analogs baro asthe baro sensor
