View Full Version : Autronic small boost control valve frequency setting

Hello,
I'm trying to fine tune the small boost controller (blue/black type) with the SM2. The manual says 40hz for the frequency but I noticed that the SM4 software literature suggested 20hz for the small valve. Are there two different types of small valves that I my not aware off? What should be the frequency for my case ? Thanks.

I normally use 10hz or 20hz.What problem are you having?

....and there are only one type available. I have noticed "some" is using not the original Autronic valve but a similar of same brand. I has had reports it can be that valve that ha problems. I only sell and use original Autronic valves.

just curious???? what do you think of the small boost solenoid? I have it but am not using it yet, running on the external gate spring now and get exactly what boost i want. question is-- when using this boost solenoid is it tricky to tune and get solid SAFE boost, id like to see if i could increase spool any. looking to run 15-18 psi. will that be hard if i use the 10 lb gate spring still? thanks for the help . I've read different opinions on this gate needing a restrictor pill or not. please explain what works best and if there are any "tricks" to getting good solid boost that wont spike or fade???

My experience is that it is a stable and trouble free three port boost valve.
As for setting up boost control, it is always a question about setting the control lines up properly, and then calibrating the boost valve in the software.

should i use a restrictor pill with the small solenoid? like i said im hoping to tune up from the 10 psi gate spring to 15-18 using the small solenoid. thanks for all the help.

In my experiance it's more the setup then the valve itself. I've used a couple of different valves and the software is very "adjustable". Right now I'm using a Bosch freq. valve going to a Porsche 930 wastegate. The gate has a 5 p.s.i. spring in it and the boost is set at 27 p.s.i (286 kpa). It doesn't vary more than 1 p.s.i. thanks to the Boost tune menus.
Just my 2cents.

You should be able to set it up without a restrictor.
If you need one, then put the restriction between the valve and the WG actuator.

Sorry, I forgot to comment on the restrictor...I've never had to use one yet.

I am new to autronics so please excuse me. Had a look at the software, I have an sm4.
I have an internally gated gt3582r with 1.06 turbine housing. Just wanting to know what you would set it at to get natural boost level? any screen shots would be great.
thanks

Are you asking for a complete boost setup, or just to connect the boost valve?

On the topic of the Autronic boost valve, i tested it at some different frequencies.
The actual frequencies settable in the SM4 when using a dedicated PWM output are 9.5, 19, 38, 76.. Hz.
Works perfectly at 9.5 and 19 Hz. At 38 Hz it is starting to float, and looses a bit linearity. 76 Hz is not recommended at all.
So start with 9.5 Hz. If it is to rough, (maybe because low volume in the actuator), then set it at 19 Hz.

just the numbers to put into the laptop to determine what the stock boost pressure is without the boost control valve doing anything.
thanks

If you are asking about the duty cycle table you would enter 0 and that would let you see exactly what the wastegate by itself will produce.

thanks. will do :)

If the valve opens too much right when boost comes full in, then closes, then re-opens -- basically wavy boost graph... what should I change? (I can hear my wastegate opening and closing around tq peak, then smoothes out up top)

Set a higher boost control range, or increase PWM frequency, or increase dynamic compensation.

Thank you, I will try this.
