I am getting ready to wire an ecu to control my drag race car. I have a 4 cylinder turbo charged stick shift car. It has 1600 size bosch injectors and I may be up to 40 psi boost. I have a new sm2, m&w pro 14, and 4 ferrite coils that I bought from a dealer in Ky. USA (Steve Nichols). He is no longer there.
My Questions:
Would a sm4 be a better choice to get me down the 1/4 mile track any faster?
I also have available to me an AEM universal ecu with harness that my son is trying to talk me into. He knows a great tuner and asked him: sm2 or aem?
His reply was- the aem might be easier to tune and understand but the sm2 is also a good choice.
Any opinions or advice would be helpful in my decision.

I am not familair with the SM2, only the SM4 and AEM. I ran the AEM and would NEVER recommend it to anyone. It was a POS. I switched over to the SM4 and have never looked back.

Keep the Autronic!!!

I would choose anything over a AEM. Even Megasquirt.

If you consider the Sm4 over Sm2 it has superior transient control and can do much to your time on 402 meter.

If you need launch control with rotational cut and much more ability to build boost on start line go for the SM4. It is a huge step and still the Sm2 is very grate.

The SM4 is equal or better. In some cases substanially better than the SM2.

Just make sure to steer clear of the AEM. I think the actual timing and A/F tuning will be identical but from our experience, the SM4 is easier to setup for a given car. I currently have an SM2 and I don't think the engine would make anymore power if I had the SM4, but I am wanting some of the options that it has. It would be relatively easy to convert to an SM4 in the future. You would just need the correct pins and correct crimpers.

After reading and talking, I think I will keep (new in box) sm2 and wire it up. If for some reason I could later do the sm4. Thanks guys!
