View Full Version : I wants flames....

So I've already created flames in the tailpipe.
But they are small.
I tried lots of extra fuel and lots of retarded timing(-40->-60) and the only flames are about 12 inches max.

Should it take this much retarded timing?

The flames are small and nothing like the big flames I have seen.

Also, if I am running wasted spark, how does this factor in?

Would I be better off setting up the antilag?

My goal is nice exhibition flames as well as flames during shifts like a proper race car or exotic(Ferrari or Lambo).

Thanks.

This car is tuned by Wroom and he may share some secrets......

Don't know if i want to give up any secrets, but... :)

A twostep launch with revlimiter set to Ign Hard, Inj Soft/Hard and rpm range somewhere between 20-200 rpm will do some powerful shooting. Just don't try to shoot through your cat. It will get upset. ;)

Add some 10% to 20% fuel to cool things down. It will be less flames with richer or leaner mix.

Lowering ignition just before the cut rpm gives more spin on the turbo, but on the other hand raises exhaust temp. Igniting the fuel mix after TDC makes most of it burn in the exhaust. Again, beware of high exhaust temperatures so you dont melt your engine/turbo. Be careful!

The EVO6 has something called SAS, "Secondary Air System". It takes pressurized air right from before the throttle and inject it into the exhaust header. Many tuners don't bother with SAS. I use it to get a more efficient antilag, and at the same time to get less flames and bangs. But it can be used to get more violent flames from the car. Just richen up the mix so the engine chews on carbon monoxide, and then the air injected on the carbon monoxide will make it burn nicely in the exhaust. :)

To produce large flames on antilag, you should try setting back ignition some 45-60 degrees, with the antilag, on mid range to high rpm's.

Concerning engines breaking down when making bangs & flames - Don't say i didn't warn you. The engine was built to get the car moving forward. Not to start a new war in the Gulf. ;)

If you are successful in making large flames, then please write about it here or in the popular magazine "Technologica Militar". :D

There are many ways You can do flames - LC, ALS, WOT. Idea is to burn mixture in exhaust...
Biggest fire i`ve seen was out of our drag supra 5" open downpipe under hard deceleration without cutting 6x1600cc injectors.

I find petrol and a match will do the trick, be carefull not to burn yourself.

my flames with launch control, no ignition retarding (since i cant figure out why its not working)

Here's one of my customers using ALS on track day:

To get really large flames you need to run premix ;) Well, in a RX2 anyway.

And no injector cut.
