if as a rule
sm4 o/p 1-----2-----3
ign coil 1 - 6 5 - 2 3 - 4
is this case
sm4 o/p 1-----2-----3
ign coil 1 - 4 2 - 5 3 - 6
really it will work?

Correct. When using waste fire coils, the coils must be connected like this:
If the engine has X cylinders, then the coil that connects cylinder A also has to be connected to the cylinder that is (X/2) steps from cylinder A in the firing order.
So if you have six cylinders, firing in the order 1-2-3-4-5-6 then one coil connects cylinder 1 and 6/2=3 steps from that in the firing order we have cylinder 4.Then next coil connects 2 and 5, and the last coil connects 3 and 6.
Simple really. The coil will fire spark in one cylinder late in the compression phase, and spark the other cylinder late in the exhaust phase.
But this with firing order is mind boggling, since manufacturers sometimes numbers the cylinder in the order they connect at the crank, and sometimes they number the cylinders one bank at a time. One has to be 101% sober and alert. :D

Write the firing order like this
123
456
Or for a chev
1843
6572
The pairs are immediately apparent
